ADFX – Doing our part to help our Aussie farmers in need!

Each year at ADFX we do what we can to give back by supporting local and national charities. Usually they are ones that are close to our hearts.

With a few of us ADFXies coming from the land, we strongly believe that farming is our future and that we need to band together and give our struggling farmers a much needed hand to get them through their daily challenges.  This is why this year, instead of sending out Christmas cards we will be directing those saved funds to Buy A Bale, a charity that was created by The Give Back campaign to help out Aussie farmers in need.

So just how did Buy a Bale Came about?

“In June 2013 after reading the plight of Australian and predominantly Qld farmers who were destroying their cattle and some being forced off their land, the team at The Give Back Campaign decided to do something about it. After some brainstorming it was decided the best thing to do was to ask Australians to Buy a Bale of Hay and the feed would be delivered where it was most needed.

In addition diesel is a must out in the bush as are groceries and corporate donations can make a significant difference and so we’ve asked and been grateful recipients of all.

After just 2 years the campaign has galvanised tens of thousands of Australian’s to donate and climb aboard their quest to Buy a Bale.

Today Buy a Bale is a recognised name in drought assistance.”

As the drought takes its toll on Aussie farmers, it’s getting to the point where farming families must decide if they will stay or leave the farming life that they love behind them. Ending up in crippling debt leaving isn’t even the worst of it, according to statistics some farmers will and already have committed suicide. This is heartbreaking not just for the families involved, but also for Australia as a nation that has been built on farming.

As the majority of the Australian population lives in metropolitan areas, where water is always available fresh from the tap, it’s easy to forget that this isn’t the case for farmers. They don’t have endless access to town water. They rely or rainwater or bore water (underground water). If the rain doesn’t come, the tanks dry up and so do the bores. If there’s no water the crops dry up, the livestock aren’t fed and the farmers lose their source of income and their livelihood.

So while we can’t make it rain, we can all do our bit to support farmers by simply donating to Buy a Bale and helping those who need it most.
